1. Char Minar

It was built by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 in honour of his wife Bhagmati, shortly after he had shifted his capital from Golconda to what now is known as Hyderabad. Golconda Fort is a complex comprising of four distinct forts. There is a 10 km long outer wall with 87 semi-circular bastions. The some of the bastions are still mounted with cannons. The fort has eight gateways, four drawbridges and several royal apartments, halls, temples, mosques, magazines and stables inside. The primary structure of the fort is laid out in a series of enclosures that holds the public and administrative structures as well as the royal residences and halls. The Nagina Bagh also lies within an enclosure but it is in utter ruins. The Golconda Fort is a magnificent fortress complex, which lies on the western outskirts around 11km from Hyderabad. Originally a mud fort, it was later reconstructed in stone. Since then it has had a variety of additions by the various rulers of the area. The fortress is built on a 120 metres high granite hill surrounded by massive castled ramparts.

6. Hussain Sagar Lake

This lake is the historical land mark of the city. the vicinity of the place endearing with park, temples and buildings with 18 miter high Statue of Budhha. you can ever experience boat rides here. The Hussain Sagar was created on a stream of the River Musi by Sufi Saint Hussain Shah Wahi in the year 1562, during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. It is a wide artificial lake that holds water perpetually. A massive Buddha statue weighing 350 tonnes stands 16 meter tall in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake. The statue is made entirely in white granite.

7. Birla Mandir

Here is something from my Trunk. I discovered this rather old (3 years) snap of Birla Mandir, Hyderabad while organising my album on Picasa. We had stopped by Hyderabad when returning from Kolkatta. I always make it a point to pay a visit to this temple while in the city. The other must stop destinations are the Salarjung Museum and the Golconda Fort. We were fortunate to see the exhibition of the nizams Jewels during our visit.

8. Chowmahalla Palace

The Chowmahalla complex which is a replica of the Shah’s Palace in Teheran, Iran today consists of two courtyards with elegant palaces, the grand Khilwat (the Durbar Hall), fountains and gardens. The oldest part of the complex currently under restoration, comprises of the four palaces Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal and Aftab Mahal. Of these the Aftab Mahal is the grandest of them all and is a two storied building with a European façade of Corinthian columns and a parapet without pediment. Hyderabad is a city with a history that reads like a love story and a past that sounds like a fairy tale. 9. Mecca Masjid

Mecca Masjid is also known as one of the largest Masjid in India. This masjid was constructed from bricks which was made from soil bore in from Mecca. Mecca Masjid, located very close to the Charminar at Hyderabad is the largest mosque of South India. Originally started by Sultan Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah, the mosque was completed by the Mughal Emperor and conquerer Aurangazeb. The mosque is said be have bricks brought from Mecca, built into the walls of the main arch and hence the name – Mecca Masjid. The mosque can accommodate upto 10,000 worshippers at prayer at a time. There is a room in the courtyard, which is believed to house the relic of the Prophet Mohammed.

10. Jagannath Temple
